Good Things: September 23, 2010

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Let's take a look at some of the Good Things in the news...

Friends of the Hawaii Foodbank are pretty excited about an event coming up. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, who is opening up a new restaurant in Waikiki, is hosting a benefit dinner for the non-profit. The dinner will be held for 2 nights only, September 24th and 25th. Tickets are $125 dollars and proceeds will help to feed Hawaii's hungry.

A baker in New Orleans tried to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest cake. A King Cake is a ring of twisted bread topped with icing or sugar and is usually colored purple, green and gold. The giant King Cake they made was 5,300 feet long. That's long enough to wrap around the Louisiana Superdome twice! There were plenty of folks on hand to devour the 8,600 pound cake. Guinness officials are still working to certify whether the cake makes it into the record books.

People lined up in their underwear in New York City for a chance to get free designer clothes. The Spanish brand "Desigual" offered a free 2-piece designer outfit to the first 100 people in line dressed only in their underwear. Desigual is known for eccentric, hippie-inspired clothing. People began lining up the night before the giveaway. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad, but they had to deal with some strange looks from people walking by.

And our very own Steve Uyehara got the experience of a lifetime yesterday. He hitched a ride with the Blue Angels. The high-flying Navy pilots will be putting on shows over the weekend. Watch for Steve's full report tomorrow on Sunrise.
