HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - No island saw an increase in its jobless rate from July to August.
The Big island is still above the national rate and Molokai's rate is higher than California and Nevada, though lower than California's worst-hit areas. Joblessness nearly always falls in August, so don't read too much into this as an economic indicator, but fewer jobless is fewer jobless even when seasonal.
Maui Land & Pineapple is raising $24 million by getting out of the golf course business. Japanese-controlled TY Management, which bought MLP's plantation course last year, is now buying its Kapalua Bay Golf Course as well. The Kapalua Course was designed by Arnold Palmer and is 35 years old.
