Victim and suspect in Waikiki stabbing death identified

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 38-year-old Honolulu man is dead after police say he was stabbed during a fight at Kapiolani Park. Earl Grant III was pronounced dead Wednesday night soon after being taken to The Queen's Medical Center. 29-year-old Brandon Wright of Palolo was arrested at the scene on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police say a fight broke out among several men at the intersection of Kapahulu and Kalakaua Avenues. Wright allegedly told a security officer that he was assaulted by three males and pointed the men out.

The officer gave chase to Grant, who later collapsed near the Kapiolani Park bandstand. Patrol officers arrived and discovered Grant with injuries to his chest and called paramedics. The medical examiner's office says he died from a stab wound to the heart with a contributing cause of multiple stab wounds to the chest.
