HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Public Utilities Commission says Pasha Hawaii Transport, which sails a large vehicle carrier ship between California and Hawaii, may begin making interisland port calls. Young Brothers says it has been subsidizing service to Lanai and Molokai and might have to raise those rates to compete with pasha at other ports. The PUC says it reserves the right to revoke Pasha's permit if it sees actual signs of harm.
Benchmark Hospitality, operator of Turtle Bay Resort, has posted a notice on its corporate website that Bob Boyle has died. Boyle, born in 1948, was Turtle Bay's most recent general manager and was known for reaching out to North Shore neighbors more than his predecessors had. Boyle died unexpectedly Friday while in Texas... the notice went up only a few hours ago.
Royal Hawaiian Center has canceled the lease of Level 4. The nightclub struggled after the flop of the Waikiki Nei theatrical show and the tourism slump of last year. Ironically business had recently been rebounding.
Hawaii personal income rose one percent in the second quarter. The average person's personal income either stays the same or goes up by a larger amount... this shows collective income, so despite the word 'personal' it's really a big picture indicator.
