HONOLULU (AP) -Fifty people from around the world are becoming US citizens in Hawaii.
The citizenship candidates will take the nation's oath of allegiance during a naturalization ceremony Tuesday, part of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' annual celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, both of which were Friday.
The new U.S. citizens originate from 16 countries: Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, El Salvador, Italy, Korea, Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Samoa, Tonga, Turkey and Vietnam.
In all, more than 9,000 people are becoming US citizens during ceremonies ending Friday.
