Voters may know the credentials of Hawaii politicians but here are some interesting facts that Howard Dicus had learned.
People knew that Mufi Hannemann coached basketball but what many don't know is that he also taught history. Many know that Hannemann is a Harvard graduate but he also spent a year in New Zealand. Neil Abercrombie lifted weights in college but also was part of the nine congressmen to vote against the Patriot act, calling it the blank check. Abercrombie's wife teaches at the University of Hawaii but had her specialty in human rights.
Mayoral candidate, Kurt Caldwell has mentioned many times during his campaign that he was born in Waipahu. Caldwell attended the Hawaii Prep Academy, the school supported by Parker Ranch. Caldwell's wife, Donna Tanoue used to be the head of the FDIC. Mayoral candidate, Peter Carlise was born in New Jersey. He went to a Connecticut Prep School that was famous for its rowing team. During an election debate, he mentioned that the last law that he broke was a speed limit. However, he told a Honolulu Magazine writer that he drives like an old lady. Pro-rail advocate Panos Prevedouros' ex-wife lives in town and says that she still thinks that he is a good guy.
