HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona is the Republican nominee for governor. Aiona will now face former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Aiona easily defeated his lone challenger, the underfunded Honolulu lawyer John Carroll, in early returns Saturday.
Aiona will attempt to retain the governor's office in November's elections for the Republican Party, which has held the seat for eight years through Gov. Linda Lingle.
