HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Brian Schatz defeated a field of seven other Democratic candidates to win the nomination for lieutenant governor. The former state representative and former Hawaii Democratic Party chair got 37% of the vote with state Senator Robert Bunda coming in a distant second with 20%.
"This is a great race in the sense that there are a number of qualified candidates. And my admiration for them grew through the campaign which doesn't happen in every campaign. But they are really great people, great human beings and great public servants. Our message of change and also delivering government that actually fixes problems… ... is one of the reason things look good so far tonight" said Schatz.
The results so far:
Brian Schatz 37%
Robert Bunda 29%
