HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu officials say the $4 million Kalakaua Avenue sewer rehabilitation project is set to begin Monday outside of Waikiki. Ideal Construction Inc. holds the contract for the project that is expected to take a year to complete.
The work consists of open-cut trench digging to replace 1,500 feet of 6- and 8-inch terra cotta sewer pipe with new 8- and 10-inch PVC sewer pipe. The work will be done under Kalakaua Avenue sidewalks from Kapiolani Boulevard to Philip Street.
The city's Department of Environmental Services says the work will be done only during daytime. It says motorists should be alert for lane restrictions, changing traffic patterns, slow moving vehicles and construction personnel.
