Waikiki hotel workers authorize strike

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hundreds of workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village voted Wednesday to authorize a strike. Local 5 says 890 employees voted in favor and 51 voted against it. The union can now strike at any time, but no date has been set.

The contract covering the workers expired at the end of June. Hilton management says the strike vote is disappointing since negotiations began just recently.

Voting took place all day Wednesday at the Hawaii Convention Center.
