HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii had the third most expensive hotel rates in the nation after New York and Massachusetts during the first half of the year.
Average nightly room rates in the islands were $141 per night, unchanged from the year before.
In New York, average rates were $193 or up 8 percent. In Massachusetts they were $152 or up 3 percent.
Hotels.com released the figures Tuesday. The company used data from about 91,500 properties in over 15,700 locations.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Hawaii and French Polynesia Senior Vice President of Operations Keith Vieira told The Honolulu Star-Advertiser leisure travelers are price sensitive.
He says they stay longer and pay for their vacations out of their own pockets.
