HONOLULU (AP) - State Senator Norman Sakamoto, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, has won the support of the General Contractors Association of Hawaii.
Sakamoto, who represents the Salt Lake area, is one of six Democratic contenders.
A statement from Sakamoto's campaign says the contractors group, which formed in 1932, based its endorsement on the candidate's positions on broad issues as well as an understanding of the construction industry.
Sakamoto is a civil engineer who owns a contracting firm, SC Pacific Corp.
Also vying for the nomination are State Representatives Lyla Berg and Jon Riki Karamatsu, former Senators Robert Bunda and Gary Hooser, and former state Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz.
