HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu Councilwoman Ann Kobayashi says gubernatorial candidate Mufi Hannemann has received more than $240,000 in political contributions from contractors associated with the city's rail project that Hannemann promoted as mayor.
Kobayashi, who has donated $3,000 to the gubernatorial campaign of Neil Abercrombie, said Friday that the contributions to Hannemann's campaign are legal, but she's raising questions about the contracting process.
The Hannemann campaign said in a statement the state's procurement office found the contracts were awarded properly, and that Kobayashi is using her council office to promote a political agenda.
Kobayashi ran unsuccessfully against Hannemann for mayor in 2008. Hannemann and Abercrombie meet in the Democratic primary September 18.
