HONOLULU (AP) - US Representative Charles Djou is expressing relief over the release by North Korea of a South Korean fishing vessel and its crew.
North Korea seized the Daesung 55 and its crew a month ago, but freed both Tuesday.
The North accused the crew of fishing illegally in its exclusive economic zone but on Monday announced it would free the crew as a "humanitarian" gesture.
In a statement Thursday, Djou called on the North to return to negotiations. He says the U.S. should now pursue what is in its best interests, and those of South Korea and the Pacific region.
He also applauded the South for agreeing to join trade sanctions against Iran.
