Chatting with Billy V: September 8, 2010

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, musician Merle Haggard and former Beatle Paul McCartney top the list of show business luminaries to be saluted for their contributions to U.S. arts and culture at this year's Kennedy Center Honors. Rounding out the roster of 2010's honorees announced by organizers on Tuesday are Broadway composer and lyricist Jerry Herman of "Hello Dolly!" fame, and dancer-choreographer-director Bill T. Jones.

A quick reminder to celebrities: When you act up in public, anyone with a cell phone can play reporter and tell the world about your antics. Former Friday Night Lights actress Minka Kelly had what was described by another passenger as an enormous dog-related meltdown during takeoff preparations on a flight from New York to Los Angeles. Even before takeoff, another passenger shared that Kelly was causing a scene because her dog was not able to be on a seat with her. In fact, the pilot had to come out before the plane left the gate. Some said she called her boyfriend Derek Jeter to change the airline policy; others said she was calling her lawyer; Kelly's people said she called the one who made the flight arrangements.
