Teen accused in cabbie death will be charged as an adult

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu teen accused of beating a taxi cab driver to death faced a judge Tuesday. A court has ruled that Kilani Derego will be charged as an adult.

He was 17 when he and 18-year old Michael Robles allegedly kicked and punched cabbie Ty Tang back in May. Tang later died from injuries.

The boys were staying at a juvenile halfway house in Manoa and left without permission the night of the fatal beating. a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday unless an Oahu grand jury indicts him before then.
