Drowning death being investigated on Big Island

CAPTAIN COOK, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) – Police on the Big Island are investigating the death of a man who apparently drowned last weekend off South Kona. 52-year-old Bruce Berard was found unresponsive in the water Friday night while night diving with companions.

He was brought to shore, where his companions performed CPR. Paramedics transported Berard to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.

An autopsy was ordered to determine his exact cause of death.
