HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaiian Airlines says it carried 5.5 percent more passengers last month than in August a year ago.
Hawaii's largest air carrier said in a news release Tuesday that this represents its largest monthly increase in passengers this year.
Cumulatively, the airline has carried 1.3 percent more passengers so far in 2010 compared to 2009.
More travelers have been coming to the state this year as global economies have stabilized and tourists have responded to Hawaii marketing campaigns.
A stronger yen is also drawing more Japanese travelers.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority said last month the number of visitor to the islands rose for an eighth straight month in July.
