HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The primary election will be held next week Saturday, but you can already cast your vote now. Early voting is open across the state.
Tuesday Senator Daniel Inouye and his wife Irene stepped into the booths to cast their early votes. Not long afterward, Neil Abercrombie and his wife Nancy also showed up at Honolulu Hale to vote.
Hawaii News Now spoke with both Inouye and Abercrombie after they voted -- and both pointed out the tone this campaign season is taking.
"We want to vote early because we're already in phase two of the negative campaign so the quicker people vote the less time they'll have to spend any time with that kind of thing going on" said Abercrombie.
"I'm proud to say that this is the cleanest campaign in the United States. When you see what's happening elsewhere, whether it's California, Maine, or New York or Alabama, this place is paradise, political paradise" said Inouye.
Earlier this election season, Inouye had urged candidates to "keep it clean" while campaigning.
Tuesday, Senator Inouye celebrated his 86th birthday.
