Hawaii Tourism Authority gets new chairman

HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Tourism Authority's board of directors has announced that Ron Williams has been selected its new chairman.

Williams is the president and CEO of Hawaii's largest tour company, Atlantis Adventures.

He succeeds Kelvin Bloom, who has served the maximum of two consecutive, one-year terms as board chairman.

HTA President and CEO Mike McCartney on Thursday described Williams as "a longtime industry veteran who his spent his entire 30-year career working in Hawaii's visitor industry."

McCartney says Williams' expertise and demonstrated leadership are invaluable to the HTA as it works to strengthen Hawaii's tourism economy.

Williams was first appointed to the HTA board in 2009.
