HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Senators voted unanimously to confirm Mark Recktenwald to lead the Hawaii Supreme Court.
The 54-year-old associate justice will now pick up the gavel as the state's next chief justice.
Governor Linda Lingle nominated Recktenwald to succeed retiring Chief Justice Ronald Moon.
"I'm humbled, honored, grateful and excited at the same time," Recktenwald said.
Senators cited Recktenwald's record as an appeals judge and associate justice.
"I think that we can safely say that Judge Recktenwald as chief justice will be a beacon for true judicial reform in the state of Hawaii," said Sen. Sam Slom (R-Hawaii Kai, Aina Haina).
Recktenwald begins his ten-year term when he's sworn in later this month.
