The arrest was not based on a tip.
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 30-year-old woman parked her vehicle in the garage of her condo on Hawaii Kai Drive at about 6:30 PM on February 19, 2001.
"The security guard for the condo saw a white pickup truck that he felt didn't belong in the area and was able to obtain a partial license plate as it left. He made checks in the building and found that her car had been broken into," said Sgt. Kim Buffett of CrimeStoppers.
Two other vehicles in the parking garage has also been broken into. Police traced the crimes back to Alan Cordero.
"Fingerprints were taken from the vehicles and it came back to Cordero. He was located June 18, 2001 at a residence in Makakilo and arrested for the UEMV," Buffett explained.
About a month later, a 25-year-old man and his wife arrived at a home on Koaheahe Place in Pearl City to pick up their child.
"They parked the vehicle for about 10 minutes, and when they returned they see a white pickup truck parked next to them and a male in the passenger side seat of their vehicle," Buffett said.
The husband chased Cordero, 29, and found him hiding under a nearby car. Officers arrested him for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. Cordero is now wanted for two $20,000 probation revocation warrants.
"He does have prior convictions, five, for robbery, UEMV, and assault," Buffett said.
