HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Wahiawa man is in Honolulu police custody accused of sexually assaulting an elderly female patient at the Queen's Medical Center.

The 49-year-old man is suspected of entering an 86-year-old woman's hospital room without permission Monday night and fondling her. Officers arrested him for investigation of first-degree burglary and third-degree sex assault.

Police say the suspect is not a hospital employee and was not a current patient.

"Patient safety is our highest priority," the Queen's Medical Center said in a written statement. "Since this is a pending criminal investigation, we are referring all questions to the police. We are also conducting an internal investigation into this matter."
