HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than a thousand people are coming to this multi-day event, and a couple companies have decided to do product rollouts here. Nissan will show its first Nissan Leaf electric car later this morning. This afternoon in Kona, Skyline Solar will turn on a new solar panel system that turns to follow the sun... on the roof of the Metcalf West building.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated next year's APEC summit in Honolulu a 'National Special Security Event.' The official designation means the feds will bear a lot of the costs.

From 51 to 53 and a half... that was the modest improvement in U.S. consumer confidence from July to August. The New York-based conference board measures that monthly because consumer spending is two thirds of all U.S. economic activity.

Japan Airlines has submitted a plan for emerging from bankruptcy. The plan includes cutting more than 16,000 jobs, mostly through retirements and subsidiary spinoffs, including the sale of its hotel chain in Japan. JAL also plans to cut 30 more international routes.

Thirty nurses in Hilo have ratified a new contract with the VA's Avalon Care Center... the new contract begins with a two percent wage hike starting this week.
