HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds welcomed back the Waipio Little League all-stars Monday evening.

The U.S. champs arrived home at the Honolulu International Airport to fans holding signs, taking photos and asking for the players' autographs.

The team spent nearly a month in the Mainland and they tell us they haven't gotten much sleep.

It was a wild ride that ended with a loss to Japan in the World Series title game, but the players, families and coaches say it's an experience that they'll soon never forget.

"Would've been nice because we all want to win, but sometimes it's not always where you end up, it's how you get there and I think they're champions," Waipio head coach Brian Yoshii said.

Now it's back to reality as the players head back to school and the coaches and parents go back to work on Tuesday.

"It feels really good because all these people are here to support us and to congratulate us," Waipio player Kahoea Akau said.
