LIHUE, Kauai (AP) - A US Coast Guard helicopter has been used to rescue a stranded mariner from a rocky shoreline on Kauai. The Coast Guard says the HH-65 Dolphin was launched Sunday night from Air Station Barbers Point on Oahu after the man was reported overdue and missing by a family friend.
Officials say the aircrew spotted the man waving a light from the shoreline and a rescue swimmer was lowered to evaluate the situation. The man was hoisted to the helicopter and flown to Lihue Airport, where he was met by family members.
The Coast Guard cutter Ahi also was involved in the search.
