Good News: August 30, 2010

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Let's take a look at some of the Good Things in the news...

Hundreds of people join in a massive food fight in Reno, Nevada. The messy fight was for a good cause. It was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. More than 150,000 pounds of over-ripe tomatoes were used for the nation's largest tomato fight. Tomatoes, by the way, are an excellent source of lycopene.. one of the most powerful natural antioxidants, which may also help in the fight against cancer.

Yesterday, HMSA and New Hope Church teamed up for the first Community Health Expo in Kalihi. People lined up for free blood pressure screenings, along with signing up for the National Bone Marrow Registry. Participants also brushed up on CPR and First Aid. It's all part of HMSA's focus on health, wellness and education.

And on Kauai this past weekend.. it's not often you see American-made Harley Davidsons and Asian sport bikes riding together. But they got together for a good cause, as riders convoyed from Lihue, out to Waimea and back to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics. Along with the ride, Special Olympics athletes helped sell chicken lunch plates as a fundraiser.
