Howzit Howard: Mexicana Airlines

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The largest Mexican airline ended the last of its flights Saturday after its labor unions rejected a fresh round of pay cuts. Mexicana is working on fresh financing but so far nothing. Higher fares to Mexico will reduce the already-shrinking price difference between Hawaiian and Mexican resorts.

The air cargo division of Northwest Airlines has agreed to pay $38 million because of air cargo price fixing. The former Northwest cargo division is now part of Delta.

Pacific Business News reports the Mexican food chain 'Just Tacos,' with three locations on Oahu, plans to open at Koko Head Marina later this year and Lahaina next year.

The Star Advertiser broke the story that a former partner in Island Dairies plans to open the Big Island's third major dairy if he can come to terms on land in Hamakua. Proposed name: Mauna Kea Moo.

Another restaurant bites the night - Perry's Smorgy, a longtime Waikiki buffet that closed a Lewers Street location not too long ago, closed its Kuhio Avenue restaurant last night.

Starwood says this morning it will open eight more Sheratons in China before the end of this year... and another 18 over the next four years. There are already 30 Sheratons in China... and 30 more bearing other Starwood brands.
