HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The widow of former Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi and his son David Fasi announced Thursday that they are endorsing the campaign of another former mayor, Mufi Hannemann. The announcement came Thursday morning at Hannemann's campaign headquarters.
Joyce Fasi reminded those attending that Friday would have been Mayor Fasi's 90th birthday. She said that the Fasi family has been close with Hanneman for years, and that even though the two had their differences, it was a sign that both made tough decisions. Frank Fasi backed Hannemann's mayoral campaigns in 2004 and 2008.
David Fasi spoke about how building a mass transit system was one of his father's dreams. Hannemann has been a strong proponent of a rail transit system for Oahu.
Frank Fasi was Honolulu's longest serving mayor. He made several unsuccessful attempts to run for Hawaii governor himself. He died on February 3 at the age of 89.
