BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police say there's been a 54% increase in traffic fatalities so far this year. There have been 20 deaths compared to 13 during the same time last year.
But the number of major wrecks is down 16 percent. There have also been 983 DUI arrests, up from 885 last year. The majority of the arrests were made in Kona and south Hilo.
