HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii celebrated a first in history today. For the first time the weekly presidential address and the opposition response were both given by people raised in Hawaii. Both Obama and Djou are graduates of Punahou School.
President Obama delivered his weekly speech and Thursday afternoon Congressman Charles Djou recorded the Republican response in the Hawaii News Now studio. Djou is also the first Hawaii Republican to deliver the national weekly radio address. He says it's fitting that a milestone like this would come on the eve of admissions day.
"Well we might disagree on the policies but I think the people of Hawaii should take pride here in the significant impact we're having on the country" said Djou.
Djou's speech talked about the economy and pointed out programs by the Democrats that he says are not working. Djou says he does not have a problem with Barack Obama, just some of his policies.
Both speeches will be released to the public this Saturday.
