HONOLULU (AP) - The Sierra Club's Hawaii chapter is backing Colleen Hanabusa in the 1st Congressional District race and Gary Hooser in the contest for lieutenant governor. The 6,000-member group announced the endorsements Tuesday.
Hanabusa is seeking the Democratic nomination for the right to challenge the likely GOP nominee, U.S. Rep. Charles Djou. In the Democratic race for lieutenant governor, the organization is backing Hooser over five rivals: state Reps. Lyla Berg and Jon Riki Karamatsu; Sen. Norman Sakamoto; former Sen. Robert Bunda, and former state Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz.
The group also is supporting U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, in her bid for a new term representing Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District.
