Good Things: August 16, 2010

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Let's take a look at some of the Good Things in the news...

Sumo? In England? The Third Annual Sumo-Suit Athletics Championships were held in South London over the weekend. Thirty participants competed in 5 athletic competitions.. including the 100 meter race and the high jump.. all while donning bulky, rubber, sumo suits that weigh about 35 pounds.

Hot air balloon enthusiasts from across Europe gathered in the Easter German city of Magdeburg over the weekend. Why? To celebrate the 12th Annual Balloon Glowing Festival. Dozens of balloons.. some with decorated faces.. others representing large bottles of alcohol.. took to the skies. Spectators were able to lend a helping hand and a few lucky ones even got to check out a balloon car from inside.. but onlookers were not allowed to go for a ride into the sky.

Over the weekend, 50 seriously ill children were given the rides of their lives in half-million dollar Lamborghinis. The rides were made possible by Kids of Courage, a non-profit group that helps children diagnosed with a range of illnesses from spinal injuries to childhood cancers. The "fast rides" were just part of a week of activities designed to help the kids enjoy themselves while making new friends who are going through similar challenges.
