HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Even if you don't count the distortion of the statistics by the tax refunds that should have gone out in June, July tax revenues were down slightly from July 2009, down about six tenths of a percent. The gap works out to a shortfall of about 20 million. Excise tax revenues were down 4.4 percent from July of last year.

The new weekly report on Hawaii jobless claims is good, a hundred fewer new claims, almost a thousand fewer total claims. Molokai went up two to 183 total jobless claims but otherwise the new and total figures were down in every unemployment office on every island.
