HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Junior Bryant Moniz was named the starting quarterback for the University of Hawaii Monday.
"I'm excited to be have that responsibility and to have that role again." Moniz said on Monday, he also added "it's always good to know when you're works appreciated."
The future of Moniz was in limbo during the Warriors spring camp. The Leilehua High grad missed Hawaii's final four weeks of practice due to personal reasons. Junior quarterback Shane Austin assumed the starting job in spring and was Bryant's top competition heading into fall camp.
Head coach Greg McMackin said the remainder of the Warriors depth chart at QB has not been decided but should work itself out in the next week or two.
As a sophomore Moniz started 8-games for UH last season after Senior Greg Alexander went down with a broken leg, Moniz threw for 2,396 yards and 14 touchdowns in 10-games.
