WAIMEA BAY (HawaiiNewsNow) - 2.3-miles of swimming.

That's what nearly 500 people completed on Saturday at the 18th Annual Surf and Sea Challenge.

It's the final stop of the North Shore Swim Series. This one began at Ehukai Beach and ended up at Waimea Bay.

Series winners include Kathryn Taylor for the women and Steve Allnut for the men.

"I like that there's a lot more strategy that goes into it, 'cuz it's a longer race and you have more time and you're allowed to draft, so I like that strategy and racing people," Allnut said.

Taylor said it was rough swimming against the current.

"So you really want to find a draft line and after the start, I really had no one to draft, so I was out there on my own," she said.

Taylor also won Saturday's race for the women and Eric Nilsson won the men's event.
