WAILUKU, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire erupted in macadamia nut fields early Saturday afternoon.
The fire began around 1 p.m. in the Waiehu area of Wailuku. The flames continued to creep into the valley, but no homes were in danger.
As a precaution, residents of the Wailuku Country Estates watered their lawns and nearby dry brush. There was also heavy smoke in the area.
Two helicopters dropped water while firefighters battled the flames.
Firefighters contained the fire by 7:45 p.m. Saturday night.
30 acres were burned in all.
