Oahu fireworks ban advances

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow)- The bill to ban consumer fireworks is going to the full city council. That's after the Public Safety and Services Committee voted 2-to-1 to advance the measure.

Councilmembers Gary Okino and Lee Donohue voted for the bill. Councilmember Ann Kobayashi voted against it after hearing public testimony about the religious and cultural significance of firecrackers in the Chinese community.

The full council will vote on August 18th.
