Kalaupapa resident pleads guilty to meth charges

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The youngest Hansen's disease patient at Kalaupapa has pleaded guilty to transporting methamphetamine from Honolulu to Molokai. 69-year-old Norbert Palea faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced in November.

Palea acknowledged having four grams of meth in his check-in luggage for a flight from Honolulu to Molokai. He also admitted sending 18 grams of meth to Molokai by air cargo.

Palea has been free on $25,000 bond so he can continue to live at Kalaupapa and receive medical treatment on Oahu.
