HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu grand jury on Thursday indicted a Honolulu police officer for allegedly sexually assaulting a prostitute.

Michael Tarmoun, 37, was indicted on one count of second-degree sex assault. His bail is set at $50,000.

The alleged victim told investigators that Tarmoun approached her in Waikiki, but she tried to get away from him when she realized he was a police officer. Prosecutors say the woman asked the officer if he was going to arrest her for prostitution, and he allegedly said he wouldn't if she did what he told her to do. Tarmoun then allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Sources say the officer was already stripped of his gun, badge and police powers, and was assigned to desk duty.

His Circuit Court arraignment date has not yet been set.
