HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaiian Airlines flew almost 87% full in July, a point and a half better than last year at the same time.

The Honolulu-based airline reported Thursday that it expanded capacity 9% but traffic rose 11%, compared to July 2009.

Hawaiian flew almost 806,000 passengers, up 4%, but its 830,000 revenue passenger miles were up 11%, showing that there was more traffic on Hawaiian's longer trans-Pacific routes.

American Airlines reported Thursday morning from its Ft. Worth, Tex., headquarters that its capacity and traffic were both up about 3% in July.

Airline industry watchers say the business as a whole has been busy this summer with a combination of leisure and business travelers.
