HOOD RIVER, OR (HawaiiNewsNow) – Vancouver, Washington police say a former HPD officer died while on an off-duty mountain biking trip near Hood River, Oregon. 45-year-old Officer Andrew Young suffered a medical emergency on the trip.
Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said Tuesday the department was notified of the death last Friday. She says no other details of the emergency are being provided at the request of his family.
Young worked for the Honolulu Police Department for nearly seven years before being hired by Vancouver police in February 1999. Young worked for a time as a bike patrol officer on the Vancouver police force.
A memorial service is planned Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver.
