HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Pearl-Harbor based guided-missile frigate headed to the Western Pacific on Tuesday. The Navy says the USS Crommelin will take part in Pacific Partnership 2010 in Palau and Papua New Guinea and another exercise, Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) in the Philippines.
Pacific Partnership is designed to strengthen alliances, improve delivery of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and to improve security cooperation among partner nations.
CARAT is a series of bilateral exercises held annually in the Southeast Asia region. Longstanding participating nations include Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
