South swell at Makena, MauiHONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A high surf advisory in effect for south facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands until 6:00 PM Thursday. Surf along south facing shores will be 5 to 8 feet Wednesday and will remain high through Thursday.
There will be dangerous breaking waves and rip currents along the affected shores. Stay out of the surf zone and away from areas of the coastline where waves are hitting the shore.
Some locations may see occasional larger sets exceeding nearing 8 to 10 feet into Wednesday. The surf will gradually decline after Wednesday with small waves on tap for the weekend.
West shores will see their fair share of south swell coming through, potentially reaching six feet or greater at some isolated locations. Windward shores will see steady head-high trade swell through Thursday before diminishing. The northern shores will remain flat by most standards.
