HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Ellen DeGeneres is leaving American Idol. In a statement Thursday, Ellen said, "A couple months ago, I let Fox and the American Idol producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for."
20 years ago, no radio station would play Contemporary Hawaiian music. Other radio stations told mainland companies and people that it was just "ethnic" music and wouldn'tʻ do anything. KCCN FM 100 was the first when it started in 1990 and theyʻre celebrating their 20th anniversary featuring some Hawaiiʻs biggest talent, past and present. Coming up tonight on the bill Birthday Bash at the Waikiki Shell will be Rebel Souljahz, Natural Vibrations, Kolohe Kai, Maoli, Koauka, Birthday Bash MVPs (Christian of Ho`onu`a, Tanoa of Three Plus, Mailani of Keahiwai, Taz of Typical Hawaiians and the group that has played every one of the 20 years of the Birthday Bash, Kapena. Opening chant at 5:25pm.
