HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man who drove himself to the Hauula fire station after being shot inside a Laie home Sunday has been charged with armed robbery.

Police say Kip Orton, 41, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right chest when his father opened fire on him. Investigators say the shooting happened when Orton stormed into his father's bedroom armed with a knife, and demanded $500 plus his father's prescription medication.

Officers initially arrested Kenneth Orton, 72, on suspicion of attempted murder, but later released him. A firearm was recovered at the Naupaka Street home.

Bail for the younger Orton is set at $100,000.
