PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) - A man accused in the fatal shooting of a police officer in American Samoa has been charged with first-degree murder and 13 other felonies. Security was tight at District Court on Monday when Siaumau Siaumau Jr. was charged with killing Detective Lt. Liusila Brown last Thursday in front of the temporary High Court building.
Siaumau is being held without bail until his preliminary hearing next Monday. There is no known motive for the shooting. Siaumau is represented by the American Samoa Office of the Public Defender, which had no comment on the case.
Another police officer was shot and wounded after Brown was mortally wounded. The other charges against Siaumau include attempted murder.
