Local connection: Hawaii's golden goose

Someone has invented smart concrete. Micro-sensors are stirred in with the cement. Smart concrete can tell you when it needs replacing.  It can report the tread of intruders. Someone else developed a vaccine that works at the molecular level. So it doesn't contain the virus it fights, and you can't get sick from it. Someone else is working on regenerating tissue rapidly enough to help wounded soldiers heal. Someone else invented a smart hospital bed that tells the nursing station if your heart rate changes or you fall out of bed.

What do these things have in common? They were all invented here in Hawaii. Oceanit did smart concrete. Tissue Genesis grows tissue. Hoana Medical did the smart bed. Hawaii Biotech just sold its dengue fever vaccine to Merck.

Hawaii's tech sector is important.  The tax credits that nurture it are also important. If they need fixing, fine, but don't tinker too much with a golden goose.
