PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (HawaiiNewsNow) - In American Samoa, a call to arm police officers after a detective is gunned down in front of a court house. These are a pictures taken moments after detective Lusila Brown was shot and killed Thursday.
Lt. Brown was among officers providing security at a court hearing. Authorities say Siaumau Siaumau, Jr was restrained after he shot the detective at point blank range. Samoan authorities say the it is a prime example of why American Samoa's police officers should be armed.
It's the first time an officer has been killed in American Samoa in 15 years. Brown, the father of two, had served on the police force for 19 years.
