Jury in Hawaii convicts Arizona man of drug crimes

HONOLULU (AP) - A federal jury in Honolulu has convicted a 31-year-old Arizona man of drug charges. Gabriel Ruiz Salcedo was found guilty Wednesday of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney Florence T. Nakakuni says Salcedo faces a mandatory term of life imprisonment without parole due to prior felony drug convictions for offenses committed in Arizona.

Prosecutors say 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine was found in a parcel sent to Hawaii from Arizona in February.

They say the meth was removed and the parcel was delivered to its destination, eventually winding up in Salcedo's apartment in Waikiki.
